Community Support during COVID

The YIS community is here to help one another during this challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic. If anyone needs anything from emotional support to grocery shopping our community is ready  and able to provide that assistance. Please contact the shul office if you need assistance or if you would like to offer assistance to others.

YIS Connects

YIS CONNECTS is a database enabling our members to market services and products to other members, and assist members who are seeking employment and networking opportunities.

Request access to the database.

Several categories are identified:
~Services & Product Offerings
~Seek Employment
~Job Offerings
~Job Placement Assistance

Respond with your listings for any of the categories here.

If you are “Seeking Employment”, you may request that your identity be kept confidential.

Please note that none of the Shul employees or Shul members (other than the parties to a specific YIS CONNECTS engagement) are responsible for payment or quality of work, and each party to a specific engagement agrees that none of the Shul employees or members will be liable for any damages or losses.

YIS Assists

A few years ago, with the help of some generous donors, we formed the "YIS Assists" program, which has enabled the Shul to purchase medical equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, Shabbat Scooters for people with non-ambulatory family members in need of borrowing these items.
Recently, it has come to our attention that there are some members in need of in-home medical equipment that can be very costly, but extremely vital to their daily functioning.   This is, indeed, a great Mitzvah that we have been blessed with the opportunity to help out with. Please consider a donation that will enable the shul to assist our friends and neighbors in need of our help.  You can make the donation on the shul website under the category
YIS Assists”.

"YIS Assists"  lends the following items to YIS families: Sabbath-compliant electric scooter, wheelchairs, commodes, walkers and canes. Please contact Howie Bryks  or the shul office or if you would like to borrow or donate items.

YIS Assists was established by the Aspis and Bryks familes in memory of Sharon's father, Israel Friedrich, Yisroel Meir ben Mordechai and Chanie's mother, Thelma Herskowitz, Tova Leat bat Yiitzchak Tzvi Hacohen.

Midnight Run

Our community has partnered with the incredible organization, Midnight Run for a number of years. Midnight Run coordinates over 1,000 relief missions per year, in which volunteers distribute food, clothing, blankets and personal care items to the homeless and poor on the streets of New York City. The late-night relief efforts create a forum for trust, sharing, understanding and affection. That human exchange, rather than the exchange of goods, is the essence of the Midnight Run mission. Please contact Rabbi Klinger  to learn more about this program or get involved.

Dorot Package Deliveries

Dorot is an organization that serves more than 3,500 older adults each year who are homebound, homeless or need to be connected to their greater community.  Our community partners with Dorot every year to assist with the packing and delivering of care packages to homebound seniors in the Westchester area prior to the Yom Tovim. For more information, please contact the shul office.

Thanksgiving Hakarat HaTov Deliveries

Every Thanksgiving our community shows our Hakarat HaTov by delivering fruit and cookie platters to our local police, firefighters, and first responders who keep us safe throughout the year.   We accept donations and volunteers to assist in these efforts.  For more information or to get involved please contact Rena Ackerman or Michelle Gewanter.

Chanukah Toy Drive

Every year the Young Israel of Scarsdale helps share the light and joy of Chanukah by donating new toys to cheer up young patients at local Children's Hospitals.  For more information, please contact the shul office.
