PARENTS AND CHILDREN
TOGETHER
P.A.C.T. is an program
designed to engage the Jewish family in an ongoing series of learning
and living experiences as a family unit. The PACT Family Tefillah
& Beit Midrash was adopted to initiate a program of heightened
prayer, communal learning and cultural activities that would integrate
the experiences of school and synagogue, strengthen the Jewish home and
ultimately enhance the community.
For Teens:
THE JEWISH ENRICHMENT LEARNING CENTER (JELC)
The Jewish Enrichment Learning Center is a place where teens go to
learn, schmooze, and of course, eat. There is always someone there to
help you with your work or learn with you. If you have something else
to study, and/or if you need to get out of the house, this is the
place. If you need an excuse to eat Dougies and schmooze, this is the
place. Here at JELC we believe in a very relaxed environment, where
learning is made fun, easy and enjoyable. So share your time, and
appetite with JELC.
Among the topics to be covered are: Responding to Terrorism, Care of
our Universe, The Messianic Era, Nature or Nurture, A Time to Love and
aTime to Hate, Protest – Jewish Activism, Forgiveness, Gender
Differences in the Torah and Love vs Lust.
Wednesdays, 7:30 pm in the Greene Gallery.

YOUNG ISRAEL OF
SCARSDALE
YOUTH DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT
Philosophy
and Goals
The Young Israel of Scarsdale believes that children are an integral
part of our community and is committed to providing an environment that
will enable the children who live in the Scarsdale community the
opportunity to grow emotionally, spiritually and religiously and to
develop into productive members of the greater Jewish community and
society at large.
Helping Children Feel
Loved and Comfortable
The Young Israel of
Scarsdale loves children and encourages its members to bring their
children to services. It recognizes that children and their parents
come from different religious, educational and ethnic backgrounds. The
Synagogue wants to create an environment that is not threatening or
alien and where each child, no matter what his or her background, will
feel comfortable; one that is warm, nurturing, fun, meaningful, and
accepting for all children. It is the Synagogue’s aim to
maintain a relationship with each child so that he or she knows that
the Synagogue is a place where he or she will always welcomed and
appreciated.
Building
Jewish Pride
The Young Israel of Scarsdale wants to instill in its children a sense
of pride in their people, religion and the Land of Israel. It hopes to
give them a spirit of religious sensitivity and observance accompanied
with knowledgeable conviction to actively participate in the Jewish
life and assume necessary roles in the Jewish community.
Forging
A Life Long Connection With The Jewish People
The Young Israel of Scarsdale believes that empowering children to
participate in synagogue services and its rituals will enable them to
develop the skills and confidence to comfortably participate in Jewish
communal life as adults and thereby learn to cherish involvement in
Judaism throughout their lives.
Teaching Respect
The Young Israel of
Scarsdale believes that a synagogue is a holy place and that children
should be guided to respect the sanctity of the synagogue, its contents
and the services that are conducted within.
PLAN OF ACTION
The Young Israel of
Scarsdale is committed to providing the resources required to design
and implement a Youth Program that reflects its philosophies and goals.
The Synagogue recognizes that ultimately the success of the Youth
Programs requires the active involvement and cooperation of its
religious leaders, administration, parents, members and children. The
Young Israel of Scarsdale Youth Committee shall, together with the

• Develop a Youth Program
• Oversee the implementation of the Youth Program
• Evaluate the efficacy of the Youth Program

Mission Statement and communicate its goals to parents
• Promote parental awareness and involvement
• Advocate parental responsibility for child’s
behavior
• Encourage parents to play an active role in the teaching of
Tradition
