Steve and Jodi Halper have been active members of the Young Israel of Scarsdale for the past 15 years. After moving to Scarsdale from Manhattan in 1995, the Halpers immediately immersed themselves into the Scarsdale community, and have contributed to the Shul’s growth ever since. Steve has effectively served on the Kol Nidre committee for the past three years and is a Trustee of the YIS Board of Directors. In addition, Steve serves on the Board of Westchester Day School and is an invaluable member of its Finance Committee. Jodi has been involved in many Sisterhood events and WDS committees over the years, while simultaneously managing a busy dental career. Steve and Jodi’s generosity has benefited many organizations outside the Scarsdale community including Dental Volunteers for Israel, Hazon Yeshiah, and Chabad of Binghamton. Through their commitment and dedication to our Shul and the greater Jewish community, Steve and Jodi serve as role models to their three wonderful children, Yaela (14), Jonah (11), and Seth (8).
The Young Israel of Scarsdale is fortunate to have the Halpers as part of our extended family.

All of us at the Young Israel of Scarsdale have benefited from the countless contributions that Linda and Allen Essner have made to our community over the past 31 years. Linda’s many responsibilities have included chairing four YIS Dinners, managing the Shul’s Mikvah for five years, and serving as an active member on our Board of Trustees. Allen, a former Vice President of the Shul, served as Treasurer for the building fund that financed the construction of our current Sanctuary and Social Hall. In addition, Allen, a practicing tax attorney, successfully negotiated numerous financial contracts on behalf of our Synagogue. Allen is a member of the law firm, Ferber Chan Essner & Coller, LLP, and Linda is a retired speech pathologist.
The Essner’s two children, Danny and Tamar, served the Young Israel of Scarsdale for many years as youth group leaders. Both Danny and Tamar attended Westchester Day School and the RAMAZ Upper School. Today, Linda and Allen are fortunate to have their son Danny, his wife Nily, and their two adorable grandchildren Noa and J.J., among our newest Shul members. The Essners have joined a growing number of YIS families whose children have returned to Scarsdale to raise their families. This continuity reflects the special community that we have at the Young Israel of Scarsdale.
It is with great pride that we honor the Essners for 31 years of outstanding service and dedication to our community.

Since moving to Scarsdale in 2005, Sara and Elisha Blechner have been integral members of our community. Originally from Boston, the Blechners left Manhattan for the suburbs of Westchester and they immediately became involved in the Young Israel of Scarsdale. Elisha, an active member of PACT, has been responsible for organizing Tot Shabbat, various learning programs, and served on our annual Kol Nidre Appeal. Elisha is also involved in the REX division of UJA, having served on its Leadership Committee. Sara, a member of the YIS Board of Trustees, co-chaired the Family Shabbaton Lunch, and served on several committees, including the YIS Dinner Raffle, Tikkun Olam, the Shul Calendar, and Mikvah. In addition, Sara is active at SAR Academy, having served as class president and co-chair of their annual Business Journal. Aside from their community endeavors, Sara and Elisha are busy raising their three beautiful children, Gabby (6), Ari (3) and Jonah (18 months).
The Blechners, still loyal Boston sports fans, are true leaders and we are privileged to have them in our community.
